About This Logo
Churches fell out of fashion over the course of the last century, their function as social hubs made superfluous by modern conveniences like the internet and the automobile. Many churches remain vital parts of their community, but their role is undeniably diminished, kept alive by a faithful few. Nevertheless, I chose their spires as the focus of my logo for a number of reasons, the most practical being that they are the most recognizable icons of their respective villages. Each village in Tamworth has one, with the exception of Tamworth Village, which has two, in addition to one of the foundation stones of our township: Ordination Rock. Each spire is distinctive enough to be recognizable with no need to depict the entire building. The cenotaph on Ordination Rock serves somewhat as a spire, and it occurred to me as I massaged the design that the peak of Mt. Chocorua itself is spire-ical, lifting to heaven the eyes of even the devoutest of atheists.
Churches remain symbols of our entire life-cycle, from birth to puberty to marriage to the getting of children to our workaday lives and eventual deaths. Churches embody the history of a place, rooted in the past as they point to the future.
