Committee Update - 01/02/24

The Pool Feasibility Committee has had several good meetings since our most recent update.  We’ve come up with some satisfying options for the location of a swimming pool in town, and a solid design concept that meets the needs of all of the uses we identified, and can be sized down to meet cost considerations without compromising one user group over another.

We’ve received a lot of encouragement and several good suggestions, so keep those cards and letters coming to ppriestman@tamworthnh.org.
We are moving into a new stage – the cold, hard winter phase – of researching costs.  Individual committee members will be looking into pool construction and operating revenues and expense.  There will be a handful of good community pools “comps” for this purpose, but also a bunch of factors that will be unique to our area and we will need to navigate on our own.

We expect there will be challenges in funding the annual operations of a swimming pool in a rural area such as ours, but as the only facility of its type in the region, we also believe there are opportunities to be capitalized on.
We’ll be talking to folks at the Ham Arena and the new Fryeburg Rec field house to see how they balance the challenge of generating sufficient revenue to operate while providing services to economically-disadvantaged segments of their communities.

During this phase of investigation we expect to meet less frequently, so don’t be surprised if you don’t hear from us for a while; we are not hibernating, we are working away with our green eyeshades on, and will keep you updated with our progress.
